My Father the exception

As the Hoffman et al article states, there are two main reasons an individual might become vegetarian: for health reasons and for ethical reasons. Becoming vegetarian helps combat heart disease, and can help in preventing the mistreatment of animals for meat. However, there is an often overlooked reason to go vegetarian: why not? After watching a CNN special with Sanjay Gupta on Bill Clinton going vegan to combat his heart disease, my father thought, "how hard could this be?" and subsequently went vegan. After 7 months of planning out and cooking his every meal he eventually gave up and settled with just being vegetarian. For 50 years old he's in remarkable health and never had any major qualms with where our beef came from. While he does have a lot of compassion for all animals he doesn't quite fit in any specific category for going vegetarian. Either way, he's kept it up for 2 years now and shows no signs of slowing down. Although, I have seen him sneak in a hamburger and some chicken here and there so maybe he's not 100% committed....
